Make the most of your Barnardo’s fundraising experience
To make your challenge go as smoothly as an otter in a tuxedo, I've asked some of Barnardo's most experienced fundraisers to give you some tips. Here's what they said you should do before, during and after your event. Follow these handy hints and you're sure to maximise your fundraising - as well as your enjoyment!
Before pulling on your trainers...
- Set up an online fundraising page with http://www.bmycharity.com/daleychallenges or http://www.justgiving.com/barnardos and subscribe to their newsletter, which has even more tips on fundraising.
- Join http://www.facebook.com or http://www.myspace.com and ensure all your family, friends and work colleagues know you're taking part in a challenge.
- Start fundraising and collecting money well before your event takes place, so you don't get too stressed afterwards.
On the big day...
- Bring a digital video camera or good quality camera phone with a video function, so you can film your big day - warts and all!
- Get your name put on your vest, so people can shout it out to encourage you.
- Take along a mascot. It's a great way to get noticed and people love all things fluffy.
- Don't forget to take lots of photos. There's bound to be someone in fancy dress - they might even be dressed as an otter in a tuxedo!
Afterwards...
- Link your podcast/video diary pages back to all your supporters to thank them for their generosity.
- Share your experiences and tips with others. What should they pack? What shoes to wear? What to expect from your challenge?
